Meet the artists behind the works in Bodies We Borrow — an outdoor group exhibition exploring how bodies are shaped, interpreted and negotiated through gaze, language, norms and needs.
Hilda K.
Hilda K (b. 1962) is a non-binary trans person who uses art to explore their identity and place in the world. Their work functions as a mirror of inner experiences and as a negotiation with society’s norms and values. Their artistic practice also has an activist dimension, challenging established ideas about gender. They primarily work with two- and three-dimensional collage and have participated in several queer exhibitions.
Pil Ulheim
Pil Ulheim is a genderqueer artist who explores how identity is shaped through encounters with society’s norms and expectations. Drawing on personal experiences and perspectives from trans communities, Ulheim examines questions of gender, belonging, and visibility. Their artistic practice moves across different media, with a particular focus on photography, installation, and relational projects.
Gabler
Gabler (b. 1988) is a Norwegian text and photographic artist based in Trondheim. She grew up north of the Arctic Circle and spent her teenage years in Belgium, experiences that shaped her interest in culture, literature, and society. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing and a master’s degree in Digital Film and Television Production. Drawing on experiences of personal hardship, pain, and adversity, she uses her own life as a starting point to explore both the beauty of the world and the darker sides of human existence through text and photography.
Stephan Udbjørg
Stephan Lee Udbjørg is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in photography, graphic design, and scenography from the USA and Europe. He currently works primarily with digital vector art and mixed media. His artistic practice is rooted in urban environments and queer experiences, exploring masculinity, innocence, vulnerability, and human resilience. Udbjørg has exhibited in Norway and internationally.
Christine Samuelsen
Christine Samuelsen (b. 1987) is a Norwegian illustrator based in Fenstad. She primarily creates comics exploring themes that interest her, while also producing portraits and original works to raise funds for humanitarian aid. Samuelsen has been drawing all her life and has worked digitally since 2011. Her practice is characterised by meticulous study, precision, and a keen attention to detail.
Hylja D. Häninger
Hylja D. Häninger (b. 1987) is a multidisciplinary artist and trained art therapist based in Trondheim. She works across painting, photography, and digital media, combining a variety of techniques and materials in her artistic practice. Häninger has exhibited her work in several venues and has initiated and led numerous art projects and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Miriam Stenevik
Mirjam Stenevik (b. 1983) is a documentary photographer, educator, and poet based in Oslo. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Illustration from Falmouth University and completed three years of study at Bilder Nordic School of Photography. Since 2016, she has participated in numerous exhibitions and received several awards in Norway and internationally. Her work explores contemporary social issues, nature, and everyday life.
Vani Khandelwal
Vani Khandelwal (b. 2000) is a Stavanger-born artist based in Trondheim, primarily working with graphite and charcoal. With a background in law, she has developed a self-taught artistic practice rooted in her early art education. Her work explores individuality, self-reflection, and how emotions can be expressed through the body, shaped by her personal perspectives and experiences.
Anne Evjen Dahl
Anne Evjen Dahl is a visual artist with experience in drawing, printmaking, painting, and ceramics. Her artistic practice centres on the body, psyche, and spirituality, exploring the connection between the physical and inner life. Dahl completed a two-year visual arts programme at Nydalen Kunstskole, in addition to various courses, and is trained as an art therapist.
